Regularly Scheduled Events

Tulsa Audubon meetings. Meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month (except June-August,) are free and open to the public. Meet for snacks and social time at 7:00, program begins at 7:30 p.m. Meetings are held at the Tulsa Garden Center, 2435 S. Peoria in Tulsa (click here for a map.)

Tuesday Morning Birders. The Tuesday Morning Birders meet at 8:00 a.m. September through March and 7:30 a.m. April through August at the LaFortune Park parking lot near the entrance at the traffic light on Yale. Birders (or would-be birders!) of any skill level are welcome to join us. For more information contact Jo Loyd, 918-835-2946 or Jana Singletary, 918-296-9629.

Saturday Morning Birders. TAS is again sponsoring the Saturday Morning Birders on the second Saturday of every month except July & August. Anyone who would like to bird with us (whatever your skill level!) is welcome meet at the monument at Lake Yahola at 8:00 a.m. in Mohawk Park, 3730 Mohawk Blvd (just north of the water plant). Click here for a map. From there the destination will vary each month, based on the weather, current birding conditions, and the interests of those who are in attendance. Field Trips. We also schedule occasional field trips on other weekends, including some out-of-town. Some are on this calendar, others announced at least a month ahead of time so that you can put them on your calendar and plan to attend.

First Saturday of every month. Bird with Oxley Nature Center Staff in Mohawk Park. Meet 8:00 a.m. at parking lot. Call 669-6644 for details.

Third Saturday, April through September. Oxley Nature Center Butterfly Walk, 10:30-12:00. Call 669-6644 for details.

Sept. 17, Tue. Society Meeting. “Bugs, Blood, and Bamboo: 13 Years of Studying Swainson's Warblers in Oklahoma”, with Dr. Mia Revels. Mia Revels holds a Ph.D. in Zoology and is currently an Associate Professor at Northeastern State University. Dr. Revels will share insights from her ongoing research into the breeding behavior of the Swainson’s warbler in Oklahoma. Dr. Mia R Revels

Nov. 19, Tue. Society Meeting. “Golden Eagle Trapping in Montana", with Dr. Jim Lish. Jim Lish, Ph.D. is Associate Professor of Physiological Sciences Oklahoma State University Dr. Lish will share insights about the golden eagle based on his research with these majestic birds in Montana. Dr. James Meinkoth (right), OSU Center for Veterinary Health Sciences, presents the 2009 Pfizer Distinguished Award to Dr. Jim Lish.  Meinkoth was the 2008 recipient of this prestigious award.

Dec. 7, Sat. TogetherGreen Volunteer Day, Oxley Nature Center Habitat Improvement. 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Oxley parking lot. Join us to help remove invasive species from Oxley's habitats, and complete other work improving Oxley's ecosystems. Lunch will be provided, and participants will receive a TAS water bottle. Dec. 14, Sat. Christmas Bird Count. Tulsa Audubon Society will be participating in the 111th count by the National Audubon Society. For information contact Jo Loyd,, 918-835-2946


Dec. 17, Tue. 7:30 p.m. Society Meeting - Annual Christmas Show and Tell Party. Attendees are invited to bring stories, slides, artifacts, or digital images (about 10-15) on any subject of general interest (birds, flowers, travel, etc.) to share with the group. In light of all the great birds being seen at Lake Hefner this weekend's Saturday Morning Birding trip (Jan. 11th) will be going to Lake Hefner. We will NOT be meeting at Lake Yahola like usual. Bill Carrell will be our leader.

All are welcome to join us.

We will be meeting at 7:00 a.m. at the Braums at 101st just east of Riverside parkway.  (2825 E. 101st St.).

We will then rendezvous at Stars and Stripes Park at 9:00 a.m.

Feel free to just show up, but you might email if you are planning to go so we know who to look for you.


Jan. 21, Tue. Society Meeting - "Saving the Whooping Crane" with Dr. Craig Davis. Craig Davis, Ph.D. is a Professor in the Department of Natural Resource Ecology & Management, and Curator of Birds, Oklahoma State University. Dr. Davis will discuss conservation efforts in Oklahoma for this iconic endangered species.


Jan. 25-26, Sat/Sun. Eagle Days. Our annual Eagle Days celebration returns again to south Tulsa along the river in south Tulsa on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Following the morning watch, there will be a round robin series of interesting presentations and speakers, focusing primarily on Bald Eagles, hosted at the Jenks High School freshmen building. It will include food, t-shirts, and live raptors. Society Meeting, “For the Love of Nature” with Stanley Rice, Ph.D. Stanley Rice is Associate Professor of Biological Sciences at Southeastern Oklahoma State University and is author of 3 books, including Life of Earth: Portrait of a Beautiful, Middle-Aged, Stressed-Out World. Dr. Rice’s program will focus on the benefits of our connection with nature and the evolutionary basis for our interest in biodiversity, celebrating citizen science events such as Audubon’s annual Christmas Bird Count


May 17-18 Sat.-Sun. Wildlife Habitat Garden Tour and Plant Sale. This event is also part of Tulsa Audubon's Together Green program. Volunteers helping present this event will receive a Together Green/TAS water bottle.  Contact Alyne Eiland at 918 521-8894 for more information.
