Tulsa Audubon meetings.
Meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month (except June-August,) are free and open to the public. Meet for snacks and social time at 7:00, program begins at 7:30 p.m. Meetings are held at the Tulsa Garden Center, 2435 S. Peoria in Tulsa (click here for a map.)

Tuesday Morning Birders. The Tuesday Morning Birders meet at 8:00 a.m. (year-round) at the LaFortune Park parking lot near the entrance at the traffic light on Yale. Birders (or would-be birders!) of any skill level are welcome to join us. For more information contact Jo Loyd, 918-835-2946 or Jana Singletary, 918-296-9629.

Saturday Morning Birders. The Saturday Morning Birders meet on the second Saturday of every month except July & August. Anyone who would like to bird with us (whatever your skill level!) is welcome meet at the monument at Lake Yahola at 8:00 a.m. in Mohawk Park, 3730 Mohawk Blvd (just north of the water plant). Click here for a map. From there the destination will vary each month, based on the weather, current birding conditions, and the interests of those who are in attendance. Field Trips. We also schedule occasional field trips on other weekends, including some out-of-town. Most are on this calendar, but others may be added and announced at least a month ahead of time so that you can put them on your calendar.

First Saturday of every month. Bird with Oxley Nature Center Staff in Mohawk Park. Meet 8:00 a.m. at parking lot. Call 669-6644 for details.

Third Saturday, April through September. Oxley Nature Center Butterfly Walk, Apr-Sept, 9:30

Fourth Saturday, January through December. Oxley Nature Center Botany Walk, 9:30, 8:00 in summer Call 669-6644 to confirm location (sometimes held at Redbud Valley).

Sept. 15, Tue. Society Meeting. “Birding and Sustainable Ecotourism in Cambodia” by Dr. Doug Wood, Professor of Biological  Sciences at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. He is an ornithologist and avid birder who travels far and wide in pursuit of birds.

Oct. 20, Tue. Society Meeting. “Working on the Rail Road: Yellow and Black Rail Ecology” with Dr. Chris Butler, Associate Professor of Biology at the University of Central Oklahoma. Dr. Butler will be discussing these two elusive and mysterious species of rails, which are the subject of his research.

Oct. 31, Sat. Bird Seed Sale Pickup Day. 10:00 - 4:00.

Nov. 17, Tue. Society Meeting. “National Audubon Society's 5-Year Plan for the Central Flyway” by Danielle Ormon, Communications Director, Audubon Texas. We'll be hearing about the programs the National Audubon Society is working on in our region, which is the Central Flyway. There are lots of innovative projects going on, all of which impact our Oklahoma birds.

Dec. 7, Mon. Chryssee Martin Perry. 6:30 p.m., Hardesty Library, 8316 East 93rd Street, Tulsa, OK. Chryssee Perry Martin is a native Tulsan who leads a unique life in Kenya with her husband, Esmond Bradley Martin, the world authority on rhino horn and elephant ivory trade. Together they have carried out research in Africa, Asia, and Europe on the ivory markets. Chryssee was appointed Honorary Warden of Kenya National Parks (now the Kenya Wildlife Service) in 1972 and has worked since then in the Nairobi Animal Orphanage where she has taken care of cheetahs, warthogs, leopards, hyaenas, monkeys, and mongooses. Chryssee will present photos and speak about her work and experiences in the Animal Orphanage and the amazing wildlife she and her husband have lived with in Kenya.

Jan. 19, Tue. Society Meeting. “Ecology of Migrant Shorebirds In the Southern Great Plains” with Dr. Craig Davis, Professor in the Department of Natural Resource Ecology & Management, and Curator of Birds, Oklahoma State University.

Jan. 23-24, Sat/Sun. Eagle Days. Our annual Eagle Days celebration along the river in south Tulsa on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Following the morning watch from 8-9:30 a.m. at Helmerich Park (on Riverside Dr. between 71st and 81st), there will be presentations and speakers focusing primarily on Eagles, hosted at the Jenks High School Math and Science Center, starting at 10 a.m. For more info contact Todd Humphrey, 918-810-4492, t.humphrey@cox.net

 

Jan. 30, Sat. Visit to the Iowa Tribe’s Bah Kho-je Xla Chi (Grey Snow Eagle House) in Perkins, OK, an eagle rehabilitation facility to house and protect injured eagles.
